About the Project
This project highlights art elements to enhance the bridge aesthetically, provides additional lighting on the Four Mile Run trail and connects the design of the bridge to the transitioning communities of Arlington and Alexandria, VA.
The choice of materials and motifs reflects the natural terrain, the movement of water, the passage of people – strolling, bicycling and driving by the site. The West Glebe Street bridge includes artistic enhancements on the concrete bridge rails and metal railings. The barriers show a flowing patterning on both sides, suggesting water as referenced by cut metal railings on the bridge. Under the bridge, paint on the walls along the river trail and programmable LED lighting enhance the pedestrian experience day and night.*

As part of the bridge restoration project, Scott System manufactured custom formliners while working with Vicki Scuri to bring her artistic vision to life.
